The Friday’s™ brand created the first World Bartender Championships in the mid-1980s to honor the infamous, trend-setting, bottle-tossing style of Friday’s bartenders around the globe. On Wednesday, February 22, 2017, TGI Fridays celebrated the best of the best at the Myrna Awards Ceremony in Dallas. The awards given out were to the best operators in the world for 2016 and Briad had two winners out of the thousands of teammates worldwide. Kim Moyer, our General Manager of Sam’s Town, was awarded GM of the year and received a beautiful crystal trophy as well as a brand new Rolex watch! Kim had a tremendous year and was definitely deserving of such awesome recognition. Kim, who was accompanied by her husband, had one more supporter to cheer her on at the event, although he was much more than just a guest. Bob Belmont, Kim’s Director of Operations, received the coveted Operator of the Year Award that recognizes not only one of the best DO’s in the United States, but literally the BEST Director of Operations in 2016! Bob received the iconic Myrna trophy and a WOW (walk on water) pin for having another incredibly successful year. Both Bob and Kim did what great leaders always do and thanked their teams for their successes. Briad was honored to be able to support both Kim and Bob at the awards ceremony.
At the 2017 World Bartending Competition at the Hard Rock Café, Alejandro Silva, champion bartender from our Rancho Cucamonga restaurant, was competing in his 4th and final WBC. Alex, who was one of nine bartenders from all over the world, competed his heart out. He put on an incredible show as he done year after year and finished in 4th place.
For the second year in a row, the Briad TGIF team took home the trifecta of TGI Friday’s accolades in Restaurant Operations at the December 2018 Championships event. Paul Blough, SVP Operations, Bob Belmont, DO Las Vegas Operations and Amanda Lytle, GM of Rancho San Diego took home the prestigious 2017 Franchise of the Year, Director of Operations of the Year and GM of the Year. All of the passion at Briad paid off with hard work, dedication to excellence and creating true emotional connections with guests and teams.
Founder Dave Thomas opened the first Wendy’s® Old Fashioned Hamburgers restaurant in downtown Columbus, Ohio on November 15, 1969. The name Wendy and the illustration of a pig-tailed, red-headed little girl were inspired by Thomas’ own daughter, Melinda Lou.
Just over one year later, in 1970, Wendy’s® opened a second restaurant in Columbus, featuring a Pick-Up Window with a separate grill. This innovation revolutionized the fast-food industry, propelling Wendy’s® from a Columbus restaurant chain into a foodservice phenomenon.
Dave Thomas’ idea was always, very simply, to build a restaurant where families could enjoy hamburgers their way. Operating under the motto “Quality Is Our Recipe,” Wendy’s® quickly became known for the square beef hamburgers that hang over the bun, each made with the customer’s choice of toppings.
In 1979, Wendy’s® became the first national restaurant chain to introduce the salad bar, which kicked off the company’s menu diversification program. In 1983, it became the first restaurant chain nationwide to offer baked potatoes. Other recent menu innovations include crispy chicken nuggets, the Big Bacon classic and a wide variety of to-go salads.
Quality and fresh, made-to-order food remain the focus, allowing Wendy’s® to quickly serve a variety of meals to millions of customers daily.
When Briad’s quick-service division decided to become a franchisee of Wendy’s® International Inc., it immediately netted extremely successful results. We now own and operate 111 Wendy’s® restaurants throughout New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Menu highlights include The Zinburger with Manchego Cheese & Zinfandel Braised Onions; The Samburger with Applewood Smoked Bacon, American Cheese, Lettuce & Thousand Island Dressing and the Kobe Burger with Cheddar Cheese, Wild Mushrooms, Lettuce & Mayo.
