Observations from the President

Imagine every member of a professional sports team entering the field of play as a lone wolf determined to look good rather than as a team player determined to win. Or imagine every member of a symphony orchestra sitting down to play whatever musical composition he or she preferred rather than the one composition all had rehearsed. The result of both scenarios would be chaos. No one person can win a team sport. And no one person can perform a symphony. All must play according to the rules.

Rules. Regulations. Policies. Procedures. Words such as these may seem boring and old-fashioned in a high-tech world that seems to covet creative rule-breaking. But if my years in the business have taught me anything, they have taught me that consistent success is 95 percent routine teamwork and 5 percent creative inspiration. In other words, it all goes back to basics.

At Briad, three of those basics are:

Treating people — customers and each other— with respect and fairness. It goes without saying that respecting human dignity is rule one.

Working smart by following proven policies and procedures. Our restaurants and hotels have rules for operations such as how to open and close a facility for one reason: because these rules work. They keep the business running smoothly and safely. They protect you, not to mention our customers and the bottom line.

Respecting teamwork. No one of us is as smart as all of us. Working together produces the best results for our customers. Briad continues to excel because members of our team are committed not to reinventing the wheel, but to playing by the rules to achieve our common goal of customer satisfaction. In the hospitality industry, one step by 100 persons is always better than 100 steps by one person. Thank you for your continued commitment to respect teamwork and the basics - a combination guaranteed to keep Briad at the top in its league.
