No question about it it was a tough winter for the U.S. economy during the first few months of 2001. However, much to the surprise of many industry analysts, signs of new growth are appearing just in time for Spring. U. S. production rose 0.4 percent in March, thanks to the auto industry boosting production. Other reports on housing, retail sales, and consumer-price inflation also are providing generally positive economic signs of recovery.

The good news for Briad is that we too are "springing forward." Our sales are better than they were last year this time, thanks to all of your efforts. Historically, restaurant activity is somewhat recession insensitive. If the economy does slow down or soften, restaurant sales do not decline at the same rate as other forms of entertainment, such as cruises. During a recession, a family may wait to purchase a new car, but they arent going to put off a night out at Wendys or T.G.I. Fridays. Families will persist in spending money for good food, good value and good fun during tough times. The old adage, "persistence pays," really is true for us at Briad. Persistence pays in other, less tangible ways, of course. I believe nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Success in life is a matter not so much of talent and not so much of opportunity but rather of concentration and perseverance day in and day out, doing the best you can with what you have. Success is not a sometime thing it is an all-the-time thing. In other words, you dont do what is right once in a while, but all the time. Success is a habit we must nurture every day. As we continue to spring forward this year, lets persist not only in keeping our guests satisfied with our food and service but also in keeping ourselves satisfied with the knowledge that by doing our best every day, we can achieve greatness that lasts through all seasons. |
